Bona Traffic HD is Bona's commercial-grade, two-component waterborne finish for hardwood floors. Bona rates it as its industry-leading waterborne finish for scuff, scratch and chemical resistance, and it is 80% cured after one day and fully cured in about three. It is used in busy homes as well as restaurants, offices, retail stores, schools and hospitals.

What you get
Bona packages Traffic HD as a two-part kit: the finish (Part A) and a 10.38 oz bottle of Bona Traffic HD Hardener (Part B). One bottle of hardener activates one gallon. A spare Traffic HD Hardener is available on its own.
Choose your sheen
- Extra Matte – 7–10 gloss at 60°. Very low sheen.
- Satin – 15–20 gloss. The most popular choice.
- Semi-Gloss – 40–45 gloss.
- Gloss – 65–70 gloss.
- RAW – an ultra-matte 4–6 gloss that keeps the look and feel of natural wood.
- Anti-Slip Satin – a satin sheen with added slip resistance.
How much do I need?
Plan on 350–400 sq ft per gallon for each coat. Two coats on a 500 sq ft floor takes about 3 gallons; two coats on 1,000 sq ft takes 5 to 6. Add another coat's worth for heavy-traffic areas.
How to mix and apply
- Shake the finish (Part A) well for 30 seconds.
- Add the hardener (Part B). For a partial gallon, mix 1 part hardener to 11.33 parts finish; a mix bottle makes small batches easier.
- Shake the mixture hard for 30–45 seconds right away, then let it sit 5–10 minutes.
- Apply with a T-bar floor coater, microfiber roller or cut-in pad. Use a clean applicator for sealer and a separate one for finish. Do not dilute.
- Let each coat dry 2–3 hours. Abrading between coats is only needed if more than 48 hours have passed; use 180–240 grit.
Use the mixed finish within 4 hours. Traffic HD cannot be re-hardened once the pot life has passed.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to add a hardener to Bona Traffic HD?
Yes. Traffic HD is a two-component finish and must be mixed with Bona Traffic HD Hardener before use. One 10.38 oz bottle activates one gallon, and the mix has a 4-hour pot life.
How many coats do I need?
Bona's system is a sealer or stain followed by 2 coats of Traffic HD. Add a third coat in heavy-traffic residential and commercial areas. See our polyurethane coats guide for more detail.
What sealer should I use under it?
Pick the sealer for the look you want: NaturalSeal for an unfinished-wood look (Bona pairs it with Traffic HD RAW or Extra Matte), NordicSeal for a whitewashed look, ClearSeal for the natural color of the wood, IntenseSeal for a deeper tone, or AmberSeal for a warm, oil-based look.
Can I use it over stain?
Yes. Bona's system allows a Bona stain under 2 coats of Traffic HD. Let the stain dry fully first, and always test a sample area. NaturalSeal and NordicSeal are not recommended over stain.
When can the floor be used?
You can walk on it after 24 hours, but it can still scuff or mar until it has fully cured at about 3 days. Wait for full cure before putting rugs back, and clean with only a dry microfiber mop for the first week.
How does it compare to Loba 2K Invisible Protect?
Both are two-component waterborne finishes for high-traffic floors. Traffic HD comes in a wider range of sheens and goes over a Bona sealer. Loba 2K Invisible Protect is self-sealing and built for a natural, untreated-wood look. We stock both.
