How to apply
- Prepare the floor: final cut at 100–120 grit, then screen at 100 or 120 grit. Vacuum and dry tack.
- Stir thoroughly. Do not thin.
- Pour a 4–6 inch line and draw it with the grain using a Bona Heavyweight T-Bar. A brush or lambswool applicator also works.
- Let the coat dry. Bona's application steps give about 8–12 hours at 65–80°F and 40–60% RH, and its dry-time table lists 12–16 hours.
- Abrade between coats with 180 or 240 grit Bona Diamond abrasives on Bona Conditioning Pads, then vacuum and tack.
- Apply the finish coat within 24 hours of the previous coat.
Do not wet clean the floor in the first week, and keep mats off it until it has cured. Clean tools with mineral spirits.
Before you start
- Not recommended over shellac, lacquer sanding sealers, or fillers and stains that contain stearates. Always prepare a test area.
- When recoating an existing floor, it must be free of wax, polish and oily residue. Test for compatibility first.
- Rags, steel wool and waste soaked with this finish can catch fire on their own. Put them in a sealed, water-filled metal container straight after use.
