Sealer
Professional hardwood floor sealers that create the perfect foundation for your finish system. A quality sealer improves topcoat adhesion, enhances color depth, and prevents issues like grain raise and finish delamination. Bailey Flooring Supplies stocks waterborne and oil-modified sealers from Bona, Loba, and Poloplaz.
Types of Hardwood Floor Sealer
- Waterborne sealers — fast-drying, low odor, non-yellowing. Ideal for use under water-based finishes like Bona Traffic HD. Examples: Bona ClassicSeal, Bona NordicSeal, Loba EasyPrime.
- Oil-modified sealers — penetrate deeper, add warmth and amber tone. Used under oil-based finishes. Longer dry time but excellent adhesion on resinous woods.
- Stain-blocking sealers — prevent tannin bleed-through on reactive wood species like cherry, walnut, and cedar.
When Do You Need a Sealer?
Always use a sealer when: (1) applying a topcoat over raw wood or after sanding, (2) staining a floor before finishing, or (3) working with reactive wood species that can bleed tannins into water-based finishes. Skipping the sealer step is the most common cause of finish adhesion failure.
